New York: Wednesday 16 October, 2013
After a a quick breakfast of coffee and a bagel near home, we looked in the Museum of Sex gifts hope and were educated about some different....things....
Then we fit the ground running to pack as much as possible into the three days we have here. Our hotel, a The MAve is located in the Flatiron district and the Flatiron a Building is one of the iconic sights in NYC. And one of my faves!!
It was then off to Greenwich Village for a walk around the streets. Even though it is my second visit here, it is still really surreal to be walking in these places that you've seen on TV and in movies. You feel as though you have been here in a past life as things are so familiar.
Supermarkets are one of my favourite places to visit. They give you an insight into places. Halloween gives rise to lots of cool stuff.
Washington Square Park reminded as that it was great to be 'Friends'.....
From GV, we went to the Chelsea Market which has such a variety of funky shops and restaurants. Even if you stayed here for a month, you still wouldn't be able to sample all of the food that is on offer. As today we are having High Tea at the Plaza, we are trying to not eat everything we see. But the seafood on offer in the Market was hard to turn down!!
Poe and his Raven.....
Uncle Alfred is an appropriate choice for Halloween!!!
A lot of people had recommended the Highline to us. And it was well worth the walk. The old elevens tied train line has been turned into a park of sorts, complete with art and spectacular views of the city. Although we were saving room for High Tea, who could pass up an apple chai icy pole....sorry.....Popsicle???
After a pit stop at the New York Post Office, we made our way to Colombus Circle and the bottom of Central Park. A quick stop at the Apple Store after a quick whip through the park to test their wifi and the it was off to the Plaza Hotel we went. As a fan of high teas, the Plaza had been recommended as a good place to go. It was very posh and the Palm Room was fantastic. Great service and awesome sandwiches. But far too posh for the two bogans from Melbourne!!
Now no trip to New York would be complete without a trip to Tiffany and Co.s flagship. Thanks to the generosity of my fabulous family, I purchased a small gift to commemorate turning 40. Of course, I ended up spending more than I planned, but with Rick egging me on, what could a girl do????
For those of you who know Rick, you will not be surprised to hear that he knows people in every city. And of course NYC is no exception. We headed back towards our hotel and met up with a former colleague of his, Gail. A rooftop bar with views of the Empire State Building seemed an appropriate place to sit and reflect on the day!!!
Back home for a brief respite and the unveiling of my Tiffany. The presentation is always amazing!! As are the products! :)
Although we had eaten well at high tea, we needed something to keep our energy up. This has been a convenient excuse to eat for most of my life!! I had always wanted to go to the Oyster Bar at Grand Ventral Terminal. Probably could have skipped it as the service was shit and the food was ok. But nothing to rave about. However, it was something to tick off the list.
Or walk back to the hotel was accompanied by some (more) iconic sights....
A full, rich, first day in the Big Apple!!!!!!
