Walking in Memphis......

Clarksdale, Mississippi/Memphis, Tennessee: Monday October 5, 2013

The crossroads at Routes 61 and 49 is where Robert Johnson sold his soul to the devil....an unassuming monument in the middle of the crossroads....traffic just buzzing on by as two weirdo Australians took pics....

The Delta Blues Museum is in Clarksdale and I was amazed at how many great Bluesmen came out of The town: Muddy Waters, Ike Turner, Robert Johnson, Sam Cooke and many more!! The Delta Blues Museum was fantastic and had great displays which, unfortunately, you couldn't photograph.

"You know the blues had a baby and they named that baby rock and roll"

- McKinley Morganfield AKA Muddy Waters

The whole of Clarksdale is a little seedy and with the train running through town, you can see why so many artists left here for Chicago....

And there's a great restaurant....

And some great art.....

Along the way we saw cotton fields....

And a welcome centre in one town that provided security! O_O

We arrived in Memphis and headed to the Kooky Canuck....scene from Man vs Food and the Sasquatch burger....now renamed the Kookamunga.....there's a 4lb, 6lb and 12lb version. O_O

The civil rights museum is housed next to the Lorraine Motel where Martin Luther King was shot and killed. It's pretty eerie to see the sight of where he died. It is a moving sight and site.

The window from where MLK was shot has been preserved.....

The bullet's trajectory is traced on the path....leading from across the road.....

.....to the Lorraine Hotel.....

Our next, lighter, stop was the FedEx Forum to see the Memphis Grizzlies take on Amber's Boston Celtics....not having an NBA team, I've jumped on the Grizzlies bandwagon.....

Tip off....

The mascot....

Nothing but net....

Grizzlies win!!!!!

Although adversaries on the court, friends courtside....

Beale Street for dinner and my first taste of tamales....not bad.....
