Fort Lauderdale/Caribbean: Sunday October 20, 2013
If you ever find yourself in FL, I HIGHLY recommend the Pillars Hotel. It was a pick from Trip Advisor and it was certainly well worth it. A little ex-y, but fabulous service and beautiful rooms. Unfortunately, I just didn't have enough time to enjoy it more!
But hotel room be damned, today we are going a-cruising!! Check out was a mercifully late 12pm and the taxi ride to Port Everglades was a short trip. Fro. The taxi, you just couldn't miss the Allure of the Seas. Holy big ships, Batman!!! Well it is the biggest cruise ship in the world, but da-yam!!!
The check in process was seamless. Nothing like the sour looks you get at the airlines. People were cheerful, eager to help and just bloody nice!! You drop your bags off when you depart your vehicle. I can a sizeable tip (??? What do I know about tipping????) to ensure my bags made it on board, headed through security, got a free touch up from security and within about 15 minutes, I had my Sea Pass card that is my money/ID for the cruise and was heading past the cheesy Royal Caribbean photographers to get to the gangway.
It's a bloody HUGE ship!!! Thankfully there are lots of lifeboats, so hopefully no Titanic-like situations. Then it was up the gangplank and all aboard!!!
As we all boarded separately, I was on the lookout for the others. This problem was solved by Flick running out of a bar to grab me. It has begun. Katie was found not long after that and the gang was together for their first drink. And pizza. By the slice.
Royal Promenade....
Amber has her own theatre.....
A tour of the spa led to a booking for the following day for me and Flick and Katie bought a pass to get them into the sauna area.
View from our deck looking down onto Central Park.....
And Central Park itself.....
Our (Katie's and my) room.....
Next on the agenda was going to the pool. The Solarium is for over 16s....yay, no kids....and that is where we headed for the pool and whirlpool.
Dinner was at the Windjammer buffet. Your typical buffet that has a wide range of foods. After dinner, drinks at Jazz On 4 and then bed.
So far so good!!
